The Beef Steak House, located at 33, rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris, is organizing a unique event on December 18: a medieval meal entitled “La Taverne médiévale du Marais”.
Set in an authentic 14th-century cellar, this restaurant specializing in exceptional meats and matured beef offers a culinary journey back in time, with a menu inspired by great medieval recipes.

The medieval menu

– Starter: White purée with char day
A rich, hearty soup of leeks, kale, split peas, parsnips, smoked bacon and homemade sausage, carefully selected by our chef. A perfect start to a meal that immerses you in the generous, comforting atmosphere of banquets of yesteryear.
– Main course: Wild boar Bourbelier
A wild boar shoulder simmered for five hours in red wine with spices such as ginger, nutmeg, cloves and raisins. The dish is served with gingerbread croutons, black lentils and forgotten vegetables: Jerusalem artichokes, golden turnips and beet. A traditional recipe that will delight fans of medieval cuisine.
– Dessert: Marzipan tart
Prepared with almonds, drunken prunes (marinated in alcohol), cinnamon and orange blossom, this tart is served with lavender honey ice cream. A delicacy that was part of the finest banquets in the Middle Ages, it’s the perfect way to round off an exceptional meal.

A period drink: Hypocras

The meal will be accompanied by a jug of Hypocras, the medieval wine par excellence. Made from red or white wine, Hypocras is subtly flavored with spices such as ginger, mace, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and honey. This richly flavored beverage, appreciated by our ancestors, will pleasantly surprise your taste buds.
